This instrument is on temporary loan to the Design museum in Den Bosch.An Ivory Diptych dial, Spanish C 1600. This dial has simple geometrical decoration on the borders of its ivory leaves, but its compass card is finely painted in blue, green and red. A fleur-de-lis marks the north, and the needle is also finely made. Painted compass cards were typical of Spanish dials hence the attribution of this example. The latitude will be 37 degrees north which is in the area of Granada. The rest of the decoration is very simple and geometrical.Temporarily on loan to the Design museum in Den Bosch Netherlands.
